Leading pump manufacturer sees growth potential in the process industry and pharmaceutical industry

For the Lewa Group, 2014 was another very successful year in terms of revenue and earnings. The company successfully proved its value with numerous large project bids in the oil and gas industries, both onshore and offshore, not to mention in the process industry sector. Despite a cooling market and dropping oil prices, Lewa intends to achieve continued growth in 2015. With regard to Achema, Lewa GmbH, supplier of pumps and systems, has defined three topics of focus with the objective of continuing to expand its position as a technology leader.

"We are particularly proud of the global business we received due to our international presence in many regions of the world," stated Stefan Glasmeyer, Managing Director of Lewa GmbH, while discussing the past year, which brought with it record-breaking performance for the medium-sized company. This allowed Lewa to win important project bids in the oil and gas industry. Since China is also an important market for the group, a share in a joint venture has been expanded there to pave the way for more capital investments. Lewa had the opportunity to expand its product portfolio for the benefit of customers thanks to its partner product concept with manufacturers of complementary pump technologies. A license agreement with Chromacon AG was signed in September 2014 to be used as the foundation for ongoing development of future biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies. This allows customers to profit from substantial cost savings and higher quality in purification processes. In order to ensure continuity and continue our ongoing success story, we also acquired the Ingenieurbüro Schmedding engineering firm, a sales partner in North Rhine-Westphalia we have been working with for decades.

International growth despite dropping oil prices

Based on the company's growth strategy, Lewa is looking to defend and extend its position as a technology leader by utilizing additional capital in the product development process. The current export share of almost 90 percent showcases the international outlook of the manufacturer. Nevertheless, the company sees even more growth potential in international markets. The company is backing efforts to provide global availability of fitters, service engineers and certified service centers for this reason. As a company with a substantial focus in the oil and gas industry, Lewa also keeps a close eye on the trend in oil prices. "We are expecting a challenging year in 2015 based on current movements in the market. At the same time, we see growth potential in the processing industry and in pharmaceuticals," said Glasmeyer.

Milestones for the industry gathering at Achema

With an eye toward Achema, the pump and system supplier has defined three areas of focus as a result: First, an additional process pump is being added to the Triplex pump series; this process pump demonstrates exceptional cost effectiveness thanks to its high efficiency and features a very compact design. This is evident in the 30 percent reduction in its weight and footprint, which is an important criterion for the oil and gas industry in particular. "Our goal is to provide our customers a customized technology for systems in the chemical, petrochemical as well as oil and gas industries in order to realize high output capacities in these areas," remarked Glasmeyer.

In addition, Lewa plans to strengthen its expert position as a system integrator in the realm of process technology, including in pharmaceutical applications. The company has the benefit of many years of system expertise in a variety of application areas to help in this effort. The third development is of particular significance; it is the Intellilab, a laboratory pump utilizing Intellidrive technology developed by Lewa. This pump enables exceptionally high precision when metering the smallest quantities while staying hermetically sealed even at pressures as high as 500 bar. "This puts our customers in the laboratory and pilot plant sector in a position to reliably develop new processes and products," explained Glasmeyer.

Stefan Glasmeyer, Managing Director of Lewa GmbH, will be on hand at Achema throughout the trade show from June 15th to 19th, 2015 to discuss the company and its products with visitors.
